OK, do this. Find and delete this file:

C:\WINDOWS\winadvt.dll

Then, download the Hoster from here. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.

Next, click here to download System Security Suite. Extract it from the zip file into a folder and doubleclick on sss.exe. Check the boxes under the 'Items to Clear' tab and click 'Clear Selected Items'. You will be prompted to reboot, do so. Repeat for all log-in accounts on your computer.

Finally, follow this sequence:

1. Right-click My Computer>Click Properties>Click the System Restore tab>Check the box next to 'Turn off System Restore on all drives'>Click Apply>Click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Repeat the process but this time remove the check from the box.

Post a new HJT log when done.

If it's just you that has log in access, then don't worry about it, otherwise log in as the other users and repeat.

Could you try to fix this entry with HJT:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: iexplore - 02rf0.dll (file missing)

Reboot and check that it has gone.

You're welcome - glad to help :tazz:

You can re-enable SpywareGuard now. Also, to help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Do you require any further assistance or should I close the topic?

There is one thing. I have a black background since this started. I read somewhere here someone else having the same problem but i havent been able to relocate to that thread. Also some of the tabs are missing from the display properties window; background, apperance, web, and effects. If you could direct me to the right place I would appreciate that. Thanks again, Mike

OK, do this. Click here to download and install Registrar Lite. Double click the purple Registrar Lite icon on your desktop. Copy the line below and paste it into the "Address" field (located at the top) of the program:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

Click the "Go" button and it will take you into the "Policies" folder. Locate the "System" folder (in the right panel), if found, right-click on the System folder and go to Delete

Be very careful that you only delete the System folder that is inside the Policies folder.

Reboot your computer again. Let me know.

Very Nice. You really know your stuff. Desktop is back to normal. If i could trouble for one more item. Upon bootup i get an error actually two errors and I believe they are related to my wireless card that im not presently using in this hotel. The errors are CoCreateInstance failed statis is 0x80040154 After I acknowledge that the next one says Visual C++ Runtime Library Program........ram files\Linksys\Wireless-GNotebook Adapter OdHost.exe it says it had to end unusually.

Hmm... that's a tricky one - sounds like a dll may have been unregistered. Let's disable the start-up and see if that stops the message. Open Spybot>Mode>Advanced>Tools>System Startup look for this value and highlight it by clicking it:

Wireless-G Notebook Adapter Utility.lnk

Remobe the check from the box using 'Toggle' and exit the program. Reboot and let me know.

Good :tazz: If you use the wireless card then reinstall the software/drivers associated with it and re-enable the startup in Spybot.
