Before we begin, please turn off Spybots' TeaTimer feature, as it will interrupt your fix if left enabled. To disable, right click on the TeaTimer icon in your system tray, and choose "Exit". Be sure to turn TeaTimer back on only after we are completely done fixing you up!

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals from here.

Also download KillBox by Option^Explicit from here.

Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe

In the top section of the Process Exlporer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of l24qlch51f4.dll once and then click the kill button.

After you have killed all of the l24qlch51f4.dll's under winlogon click ok.

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of l24qlch51f4.dll then click the kill button. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you have done that click ok again.

Next run HijackThis and place a check beside each of the following.
O16 - DPF: {39B0684F-D7BF-4743-B050-FDC3F48F7E3B} (FilePlanet Download Control Class) -
http://www.fileplane...DC_1_0_0_44.cab
O16 - DPF: {F04A8AE2-A59D-11D2-8792-00C04F8EF29D} (Hotmail Attachments Control) -
http://by18fd.bay18....ex/HMAtchmt.ocx
O20 - Winlogon Notify: Unimodem - C:\WINDOWS\system32\l24qlch51f4.dll

Now click fix checked and close HijackThis.

Double click on Killbox.exe and then check the delete on reboot button.

Enter the following filepath and filename into the Full path of file to delete box

C:\WINDOWS\system32\l24qlch51f4.dll

Click the red circle with the white x and allow your computer to reboot.

After your computer has rebooted please run Hijackthis again and post a new HijackThis log.

I didn't find any instances of l24qlch51f4.dll in the process explorer, but I ran killbox.exe and followed the steps anyway. Here's the new log.

Thank You.

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left. :tazz:

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

we got it all! Let's fix one last line in HJT, and then you're good to go! Open HJT and scan for a log. Put a check only next to this line:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u

close everything but HJT and click "Fix"

is everything running ok now? any other problems?

Congratulations! :tazz: Your log is clean! ;)
Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.
