I have been using my friends laptop for the past couple of weeks. He has Windows Vista.

For the past week, Norton Antivirus has been showing a Backdoor.Trojan and fails to remove it everytime. Spybot search and destroy does not register this. Norton says it is a high risk. I have no idea how to remove this, but since it is high risk, I need to get rid of it ASAP. :)

Also, the internet is refusing to navigate off of the main page. This started earlier today. Last week, it was extremely slow so I downloaded a registry cleaner and that fixed the problem of internet speed. I've tried running this again and defragging the registry, but the internet still will not navigate off of the main page. Also I get a pop-up when I try to get off of the main page, which Norton blocks so it pops up as "internet explorer cannot display this page." And I get a pop up in the corner saying that Norton blocked a recent attack on my computer. I have no clue as to what this problem even is, as my antivirus only says I have the Trojan and it's been on the laptop for a week but the internet only started screwing up today. :)

Please help me with these two problems. I'd like to get these taken care of before I leave my friend's house, which is in like a week. Thanks in advance for the help.

I cannot download any of those programs onto the laptop because of the internet being screwed up and not leaving the home page. I am on another computer to be on this site. So what do you want me to do to help you help me? By the way, thanks for responding so quickly.

No problem, if you cannot download the tools from the infected laptop, download it using an uninfected one and transfer the setup files for these tools using USB drive or any removable disk. :)

Just so you know, this could take an extremely long time, because his other computer, the one I am on, is very old and very very slow and it's dial up. Also, he's been having problems downloading on this computer. But I will go ahead and try it. Again, if it takes a long time, I'm sorry.

Hey wicked_princess,

From your log, you seem to be using multiple anti-spyware resident running on your computer. This is not recommended as multiple protection of the same kind can cause conflicts and reduce the efficiency of the softwares. Please disable one of the following:

Windows Defender
Spybot Search and Destroy

Looks like Malwarebytes took out a few infections from there, let's run other tools to remove the rest. :)

Please follow my instructions in the order they were given, and print out a copy of it as you may not have access to the forums during the fix.

1) Run VundoFix

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

2) Run Deckard's System Scanner

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Next reply (please include):

VundoFix.txt
