Any solutions for this mildly annoying problem?

I have Windows XP and MS Office 2000.

When I doubleclick on an EXcel document, Windows Installer wants me to load the MS Office CD so it can find Excel even though Excel.exe is installed under C:\program files\microsoft office\office

What happens when you try to open Excel.exe from your HD? Are you able to run the program that way and then open your documents?

Try this...with your Office CD in the tray, go to "Add/Remove Programs" from the Control Panel. When you click Office, use the option to "Repair" the program. This will reinstall the software for you, retaining your current settings, and may fix your problem.

Let us know how it goes.

Hope this helps.

Hi Magus, yes I can load Excel then open a document so I'm not completely stuck.

I will go search out the Office CD and try your suggestion - thanks for your reply. I'll let you know how I get on, although I may not be able to try your tweak for a couple of days.
