I only got my new notebook on Thursday! I haven't even finished setting it up properly yet, and I already have this thing!

Is it safe to use the 'uninstaller' from mypctuneup? Sorry to whoever PMed me to suggest this, but I thought I should check first as I don't like to download stuff like that and just run it without caution...

Can you please tell me which [bleep] PM'ed you that?
That "uninstaller" is made by the same people that spread this malware.

I'll make sure he gets banned, if he isn't already.

Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder and run FindIt's.bat and wait for notepad to open a text file. It will take awhile so please be patient ...
3. Then post the results here please, along with a HijackThis log.

It was nongeek555 - the subject was simply 'aurora' and the message said edited - Metallica lol never thought of this one I went to the aurora website and downloaded the uninstaller' and that was it.

it kinda confused me for a while, cos I had registered here because I was having problems with Aurora, but I didn't remember posting yet - although I was drunk when I got home last night lol.

Anyway, running that program you suggested now - will update when it's done! Thanks.

Thanks for the info. :tazz:

Click Start > Run > type cmd > OK

The command prompt will open.
Usually it does this in C:\Documents and settings\{username}
Type the command cd\ so only the C:\> is left

then type the following commands:
cd Windows
Nail.exe /Fullremove

*Click Here to download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Extract the program to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
Copy the file names below to the Killbox program

C:\WINDOWS\NAIL.EXE

*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

While your computer is restarting, tap the F8 key continually until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Run HijackThis and put checkmarks in front of he following items.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Reboot once more and post a new HijackThis log.
