Just wondering, are they shared between browsers? So, if somehow, my cookies were to be "grabbed" while on IE, would my FF cookies be safe or in danger?

Cookies are text-based files and are independent on a per-browser basis.
Computer cookies are unlikely to be "grabbed" as there's typically nothing of any worth in them. Cookies left on the front room table for two seconds while you pour the tea are more likely to be grabbed and eaten in your absence.
