I have a WD 640g hard drive with XP Pro. SP3, Asus P5Q-E motherboard, E4600 cpu.
The hard drive light blinks about 1 per second.
I went to Services and disabled Indexing but it didn't make a difference.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

This is a situation where checking the logging might help. You may need to enable some of it first. Also note whether the hard drive light and the network light blink at the same time.

This situation has long been caused (at least under Windows 95, 98 and ME) by Autoplay.
Also a lot would depend on what the computer's doing or has running in the background.

Virtually nothing running in the background.
CPU at 99% for system idle while drive light is running.
No external drives are attached.
Thanks.
