My friends and I LAN a lot at eachothers houses. There's 4 people in what we like to call our 'gaming team' and this is good, because We use my 4-port Router.

But occassionally we find other people to come, and we can't accommodate for them.

My brother suggested to me building a 'server computer', rather than just buying an 8-port router or hub or whatever. Is this possible?

Or what would be the best way to connect us all together?

Your best bet will be to add another 5 port switch behind your router. This would give you a total of 8 usable ports. Something like this would be perfect: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16833124005.

I don't see how a server would help you here at all. If you need a device to host your game or filter traffic coming in from the internet then I might see a use for a server.
