Windows vista ultimate

Hey i have a friends computer that im repairing and she does not have her windows cd so i can repair the OS which is Windows Vista Ultimate is their any thing else i can to to fix it.

(The computer starts up in normal mode and when it reaches the part to log in the screen just reamains black with my courser only showing the computer is a sony viao by the way the computer runs fine in safe mode did system restore all that still same problem i know i have to repair the os but to get the operating system will take so long.)

Running a start-up repair off the Vista DVD will probably solve it. If the system only starts in normal mode its usually down to a conflict between programs or an invalid/incorrect driver for something or other.
