I am sure you know the one.

Hi, I am Mr Spy, please excuse the ironic name as my computer seems to have been infected with spyware.

I'm no expert but have managed to remove some nasty spyware before with the help of experts, so I am hoping someone can help me out.

I was looking on a computer games website and all of a sudden a program downloaded, a well known spyware programme called something along the lines of XP Protector 2000. With it came a blue background with 'Warning! Spyware detected on your computer! Install an anti-virus or spyware remover to clean your computer.' in a yellow box.

I managed to log in in safe mode and delete the fake XP programme, but cannot get rid of this background screen and I'm sure that's not all that is on my computer.

Some of the display tabs have gone, and my laptop wont let me do a system restore. The machine is running OK at the moment, a little slower than usual but I am sure it will get worse the longer this goes untreated.

This is the first time I have had a spyware problem on this machine, so I did not have hijackthis downloaded. On downloading it, it gives me an option to unzip it, when I click this it just says '1 file unzipped' and nothing else happens.

Any advice greatly appreciated,

yours,

Mr. Spy.

I've managed to get rid of all the suspicious files I could find. They all end in 0easj.

It's got rid of the warning message but the blue screen is still there?

Files I managed to delete were:
lphca82j0easj
blphca82j0easj
phaca820easj
ppcha82j0easj

Can't find any more!

OK, after running smitfraudfix, it has got rid of the blue background, and seems to have resolved the problem.

The only thing that happens now that didn't before is when I start up I get an error message telling me that windows cannot open a program called wpx120.cpx. I have no idea what this program is.

Can anyone verify? Do I need to delete it? Or re-download a certain program I had?

Hi there. The reason that no one helped you was because you were replying to your own post. We look for zero replies. Nuff said

So lets go get to work

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wpx120.cpx"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lsass driver] C:\WINDOWS\msauc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lphca82j0easj] C:\WINDOWS\system32\lphca82j0easj.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SMrhce82j0easj] C:\Program Files\rhce82j0easj\rhce82j0easj.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [C:\WINDOWS\system32\kdekl.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\kdekl.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SVCHOST.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\svchost.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [iexplorer] C:\WINDOWS\iexplorer.exe --system

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

THEN

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Looks better a few minor irritants to remove then a quick scan for orphans

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O2 - BHO: ShprRprts - {2A8A997F-BB9F-48F6-AA2B-2762D50F9289} - C:\Program Files\ShopperReports\Bin\1.1.0.0\ShprRprt.dll (file missing)
O9 - Extra button: ShopperReports - Compare travel rates - {946B3E9E-E21A-49c8-9F63-900533FAFE14} - C:\Program Files\ShopperReports\Bin\1.1.0.0\ShprRprt.dll (file missing)
O9 - Extra button: ShopperReports - Compare product prices - {946B3E9E-E21A-49c8-9F63-900533FAFE15} - C:\Program Files\ShopperReports\Bin\1.1.0.0\ShprRprt.dll (file missing)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

THEN

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Logs required : MBAM and a new Hijackthis log.. Plus how is your computer running now

OK lets see if I can locate the file that is running that

Download OTScanit to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
  • Check the box that says Scan All User Accounts
  • Check the Radio buttons for Files/Folders Created Within 90 Days and Files/Folders Modified Within 90 Days
  • Check the Radio button for Rootkit Search
  • Under Additional Scans check the following:
    • Reg - BotCheck
    • File - Additional Folder Scans
    • File - Purity Scan
    • Evnt - EventViewer Errors/Warnings (last 7 days)
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Please attach the log in your next post.

To attach a file, do the following:
  • Click Add Reply
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on Posted Image to insert the attachment into your post

Just to let you know the laptop has now gone completely down the pan!

I can't even get into windows in safe mode! I'm not sure what's happened it just refused to enter the next time I switched my machine on.

I'm posting from a different location to my home and will be back when I can get the laptop back into windows.

Until then, thanks and ttyl.
