I had malware on my computer and removed it, but afterward I am unable to access my "display" in control panel. I worked with essexboy in trying to remedy the problem (see http://www.geekstogo...e...html&st=30). This thread is malware free. We reinstalled the desk.cpl and used Kellys Korner fix. When running Kellys Korner fix, one item gave a message "mshtml.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. The file can not be registered" Also, my time on the computer is in military format.

In addition, all messages coming into my email (Outlook Express) are attachments. Everything including text messages.

Please download Dial-A-Fix.
Unzip the folder found in the archive to a place you can remember. For example: C:\DialAFix
Then follow the steps below.

• Browse to the folder where you saved Dial-A-Fix.
• Open Dial-a-fix.exe
• In the bottom press the Policies... Button.
• Once the scan is finished, press Remove
• Reboot the system.

Let me know if that Policies thing found anything.

downloaded and ran Dialafix.

Message came back "of 147 policies no restrictive policies were found.

Ok, lets do the next step in Dial-A-Fix then.

• Browse to the folder where you saved Dial-A-Fix.
• Open Dial-a-fix.exe
• Tick the following boxes:
  

  Control Panel applets
  Explorer/IE/OE/shell/WMP
  Empty temp folders

• In the bottom left press the GO Button.

Note that ticking a box might tick others too. Leave them ticked!

Tell me if you can open the Display in the control panel after those steps.

Outlook Express appears to be fixed. My messages are no longer coming in as attachments. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you rightclick the desktop and hit "Properties"?
Tell me what happens?

Can you go to C:\Windows\system32 and physically check if desk.cpl is present or not.

Desk.cpl is present in C:\Windows\system32.

When I right click on desktop, properties, hourglass runs briefly and stops. No response, just like when I click on display.

Open notepad by going to START > RUN and type notepad.exe in the box that appears. In the window that pops up please copy and paste the following

start notepad C:\reg.txt
exit

In Notepad click on the "File" menu > Save As... Under "File name" type fix.bat and Change "Save as type" to All Files, save it to a place you will remember.



Double click on fix.bat.
Please copy and paste the content of the notepad into your next reply.
