Currently posting from my third computer.. My Laptop's hard drive fell out when I was putting it away last night and now it has damaged system files. If you know anything about that, it would be great if you could reply to my post in the XP/W2k/etc forum.

I already had MBAM installed. I will run it and post both logs in a second.

Thanks,
Mech

When running MBAM, it popped up about Error Code 372 and that "vbalGrid cannot be read from vbalgrid6.ocx", then saying something about it possibly being an older version. I've removed then reinstalled it and it's showing the same thing, even with a clean install from Malwarebyte's website.

Any idea what I should do?

Please download SUPERAntiSpyware Home Edition (free version).
–Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
  • It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click Yes.
  • Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
  • Click the Scanning Control tab.
  • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
  • Close browsers before scanning
  • Scan for tracking cookies
  • Scan for Alternate Data streams
  • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Please leave the others unchecked.
  • Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
Then run Superantispyware.
  • Double click on the icon to start Superantispyware.
  • On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
  • On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
  • Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click Next.
  • It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click Yes.
1. To retrieve the removal information for me please do the following:
2. After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.
3. Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
4. Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
5. It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
6. Please highlight everything in the notepad, then right-click and choose copy.
7. Click close and close again to exit the program.
Save the log information. If needed (still infected) paste this info along with your Dss log.

When attempting to install SuperAntiSpyware, it said that it could not access Windows Installer. I believe that the virus corrupted that aswell.

Every time it seems like we're going to get to the end of this, it ends up having corrupted something else.

Kaspersky is running as I type this. It might take a while, though.

No threats found just yet..

Oh yes, in my previous post I forgot to mention that svchost is still causing tons of pop-up errors, and that I still cannot download files from the net because of "Security Zone settings".

Do you know what that is all about, or is it related to the virus?

A thunderstorm has just moved into my area, so I need to go for the sake of my computer not being fried.

Thanks for all the help so far. Hopefully we will be able to continue soon.

The thunderstorm has passed, I'm now scanning again.

Hopefully it will find and delete the rest of the malware.

I ran the scan last night and it detected approximately 13 items of malware, most of them being adware a few being downloaders. However, I forgot to save the log before I exited the tool.

Should I post a DSS or Hijackthis log instead?

i am very sorry, I ran that scan overnight and now you won't even be able to tell what I was infected with..

Here is the DSS log. svchost causes alot of pop-up errors when DSS runs, might it be remnants of the malware?
