Hi, I'm new here, so I hope I'm doing this the right way. I've got the Aurora popups, and I've run spyware, adaware, antiviruses, etc. including the ones mentioned in other posts here. I downloaded HijackThis, and it didn't fix the problem either. I see that the popups are running as the program qdjfarag.exe which is like Nail.exe, where it reappears as soon as you delete it. I also see bolger.dll. Most programs find these and delete them, but obviously whatever is still triggering them has not been fixed. I appreciate some help with this, I'm going crazy here.

Next, I would recommend that you run HJT from your C:\ drive in a permanent folder. Create a folder on your C:\ drive and rename it something easy to remember such as C:\HJT, then move HJT to that folder and run it from that location from now on.

Once you do this please post back a new HJT log by using Add Reply then we can get started.

heh, yeah, i guess i should've mentioned that. i'd been trying like crazy to clean stuff up, and i found a solution to the aurora popups that i think someone else here posted. there's some uninstall site for it. but the nail.exe is still there and while lots of things find it, it keeps reappearing. it looks like it's connected to explorer.exe somehow, but i have no idea. thanks for looking into my problem.

i dont recall the site, it was listed on this site tho in someone else's thread with a similar problem. i've used a number of programs: ad-aware, spy-bot, ewido, microsoft's anti-spyware thing, bit-defender (antivirus).

I have a feeling the site you went to was the same site that installed Aurora in the first place. I am only speculating on this. In the future please only follow the advice given by Staff Members here at GTG, this is due to damage that can be caused by improper advice.

Are you currently running any Anti-Virus Software, it looks like you were running BitDefender. Did you disable this?

Scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to the following item:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all browsers and open windows except HJT the click Fix Checked

Reboot and post back a new HJT log by using Add Reply

i've done this many times, but nail.exe always comes back, as it did this time.
also, no, i had actually uninstalled bit-defender, so i'm not sure why there's those residual links to it still.

I would strongly recommend that you get some sort of Anti-Virus program and keep it running.
Here is a reference link.

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Save it to your desktop.
Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
Select the buton "Delete on Reboot"
Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it.

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

It will ask you if you want to reboot, answer YES.

Reboot your system.

Scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to the following items:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all browsers and open windows except HJT then click Fix Checked

Reboot once again and post back a new HJT log by using Add Reply

i did what you said, the first time windows rebooted, an error message popped up as soon as the desktop appeared saying it couldnt find the file C:\Windows\Nail.exe
i ran hjt and it found nail.exe as it always had, and then rebooted. running hjt produced the log i'm including below, without nail.exe
should it be all set now? i've noticed sometimes deleting nail.exe enough times seems to make it go away for a bit and hjt doesnt find it, but then it's there again another time.

It seems to be gone, lets make sure there are no other remnants that have been left behind.

Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder and run FindIt's.bat and wait for notepad to open a text file. It will take awhile so please be patient ...
3. Then post the results here along with a HJT log.
