Every time I try to dial out I get an Error 50 message telling me that the request is not supported. I just went through a malware clean up and have been told that my machine is clean. The guy that was helping me there suggested that I post here for this issue. I searched the internet and found some instructions for using Rarepair and tried that. It just made things worse so I ended up doing a system restore back to before I did that. Can someone help me out with this issue. Thanks for any suggestions.

I'd like to see some more information. Please follow the steps below.
  • Go to Start -> Run.
  • In the Box, type in "cmd".
  • A black box will appear. Type in: "ipconfig /all".
  • A lot of information will appear, Please right click the black window and hit mark.
  • Select every line of text you recieved and hit "enter" to copy.
  • Then paste it into your next reply.

Also, can you tell me how your network is set up?
Are you connecting through a router -> modem -> Internet?
Or are you going straight from pc -> modem -> internet?

Please give me as much details as you can so I can work with the details :)

Regards,
Olrik

Hi Artellos,

Thanks for taking the time to look into my problem. I connect to the internet using my cell phone tethered via USB to the PC as a modem straight to the internet. It is a Motorola Razr. I have the drivers for the phone loaded. The PC recognizes the phone as a modem. When I try to dial up the connection the phone dials out. It progresses though verifying user name and password. It goes on to registering computer on the network. Then the error box pops up. It say all devices connected at the top of the box. Below that is the Error 50 with the request is not supported just below that.

Here is the information you requested.

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
© Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

Also, do you have the windows firewall running?
Can you try turning the windows firewall off and then try to connect?

I don't seem to be able to get any results with the command path.

I already have the firewall off. I was waiting until I get this resolved before turning it on.

Hi Artellos, if you are still watching this thread I called my service provider and they of course were no help at all.

I don't know what I did but I now am getting an Error 720 saying that it can not connect to the remote computer. I checked the settings and they seem to be the same as on the computers that work.

I am so lost at this point I have no Idea which way is up. Would you happen to have any other Ideas? If so, please share. Thanks for any advise you have here.

Hmm, Great..
Have you tried a windows repair?
It might fix it.

I tried a restore with the original disk when I first started working with this PC but it didn't go well. It kept hanging up on copying a preload base 1 I think it was. Here is my thread from the beginning if you are interested in looking at it. http://www.geekstogo...ry-t207220.html Rip worked with me to get it clean. Anyway, I noticed the last time I did a restore back to the clean point that it was renaming the Motorola files so I deleted them and restarted. When I connected the phone again it saw it as new hardware and installed it as a modem on its on. That's when I came up with the Error 720. I reloaded the Motorola drivers after my last post. Now I am back to getting an Error 50. So do you think I should try the windows repair again?

The windows repair (not system restore) might restore some files that weren't completely fixed.
It might fix it, though at this point I am not sure. It's worth giving a shot though.

When I booted from the XP cd before it didn't give me the blue screen with the repair option as outlined in the link you gave. Now that it is clean might it give me the repair option? Sorry to be such a pest by the way.

you're not a pest at all :)
It should (even if infected) give you that blue screen.
Are you sure you're using the original XP CD? :)

I'm pretty sure that is what I have. It says Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Operating System Disk. Use this disc to re-install your operating system. It also has the Gateway logo on the top of it.
