Thanks for all the helpful info from this site. I followed a number of the smit fraud and about posts and "think" I eliminated all the smit fraud and about re-direct.

My problem is that IE stll starts automatically upon start-up. I have posted the log below. Didn't want to jump the gun deleting anything prior to a post...

Hi Usetobe,

Yes it is still a problem, IE still starts with each reboot. Seems all the hijack and about items I had an issue with are gone, but left with the IE restart. Any help would be appreciated.

Usetobe,

I performed the actions from your last post. Sorry for the delay the office has kept me busy.

No crza.exe found after the fix check from HJT.

EWIDO didn't want to open in safe mode, so I restarted in normal mode and ranthe scan.

PROBLEMS...
No auto IE at start up but...

Upon restarting I noticed the start icon, usually in lower left corner is gone, ctrl-alt-del doesn't work and program windows if closed are not shown in bar. IE has the file and buttons gone and in addition when I tried my mozilla the link didn't work, tried to delete the link and got a "memory full error". Start-up icon building is much slower than before.

I imagine all the above is related to my IE troubles after the cleaning...

Tried it. It ran for some time and after finishing the window closed and the waiting/working hour glass continued over the open window of the XP CD main menu. I waited and decided it had stalled out, no accessing of hard drive or CD after 45 min.

No change upon reboot.

I am moving my files to an external hard drive and plan to reinstall windows XP.

I most likely will do this in about 3-4 hours from this post. I will check back to see if you had a chance to reply prior to the re-install.

Thanks for the help so far. One thing I plan to do in the future is not use IE anymore...any other prevenative advice? I have pest patrol and norton anti-virus, of course along with the various programs downloaded from the past posts.
