I have a HP pavillion 533w XP home SP2 and was told to put 2 512mb memory..i put them in and when the pc starts it doesn't show anything just little squares ..if i put 1 in and leave the original in..256mb i think it is it works fine...any idea? i got 2 512 mb pc2700

Here's the motherboard specs

It lists the memory as pc2100/1600

Are you certain that you had it inserted correctly? You may have to find some of the older type memory of that speed to get it to work.

That's the one i was told to get.
I'm not REALLY concern about it because i got 1 to work..instead of 1GB i got 768 MB and it's working fine or a lot better than what it was i should say..i was just curious. I'm pretty sure i put it the right way..both facing the same way..made a click and the white holders closed.
