My IE start page has been reset for me. I have used a number of different programs to try and remove the problem but cannot seem to get rid of it. Many of the programs have come up with a "se.dll" file that should be removed but cannot remove it, or if they do it immediately returns. For some reason I can find no way, even manual removal to get rid of it. Obviously I am missing something. Does anyone know what my problem might be? I have a real time nirus remover running on my computer and it keeps popping up with the se.dll file and says it is removed. I hae no idea why it always comes back...

Also I can no longer open links that need to be opened in a new window. I get the new window to pop up but it is blank. Are these related?

Thanks :tazz:

Welcome to GTG.

Download CWShredder http://www.greyknigh.../CWShredder.exe

Right click a blank part of your desktop & select New->Folder. Call it SPFix. Go to http://www.derbilk.de/404.html and download SpSeHjfix. Get the one that's specified for your Operating System. So if you have Windows 98, get the one that's listed for Windows 98.

Disconnect from the net and close all programs. Run SpSeHjfix and click on 'Start Disinfection'. When it's finished it will reboot your machine to finish the cleaning process. The tool creates a log of the fix which will appear in the folder.

If it doesn't find any of the SE files or any hidden reinstallers it will say system clean and not go on to next stage.

Now run the CWShredder and hit the Fix button.

Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and the log that was created by SpSeHjfix.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I wasn't expecting anyone to get on this so quickly. It is much appreciated.

I ran both programs as you directed. I don't see the se.dll page on my startup anymore! Still cannot open pages in pop ups but that was the lesser of my worries :tazz: Here are my logs.

No problem. Just happened to bump into your topic. We need more helpers here which is why some users experience a longer delay.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download FixAgent http://www.greyknigh...py/FixAgent.zip and unzip it. Run FixAgent.exe. It should fix something. If nothing is fixed, skip to the next step for the HijackThis fixes. If something is found, also download home_missing_114 http://www.greyknigh...missing_114.zip and unzip it. Run the Home winkey missing batch file. Remember: ONLY run home_missing_114 if FixAgent found something.

Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Did the scan with FixAgent and came up with nothing. Went to HijackThis and 'fixed' all the files listed. Restarted and here is my log :tazz:
