Hello again Raider 1,

You have ComboFix on your computer. Do not run ComboFix unless it is under supervision from experts at a recognised Malware Forum. There are good reasons for this. In certain circumstances it can and does cause computers to become unusable. Also it is continually being altered to meet current conditions.

-----------------------------

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later. This will especially help you when your computer is off line.

It is important you carry out instructions exactly in the order they appear.

-----------------------------

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and uninstall Viewpoint.

Next

You appear to have two anti-virus programs installed.

Running two or more real-time anti-virus monitors at the same time can cause a conflict. That conflict could result in error messages, crashes of the programs or other types of failure. You will very likely end up with little or no protection.

Please uninstall either of: Authentium or Vipre.

-----Step 3-----

After that, please download JavaRa and unzip it to your Desktop.

Double click JavaRa.exe then click Remove Older Versions.

Follow any prompts; a log will popup (JavaRa.log)-- please post the contents of this log.

Next, open JavaRa.exe again, and select Search For Updates.

Select Update Using Sun Java's Website --> Search, and continue the instructions for downloading and installing the latest Java version.

-----Step 4-----

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    [kill explorer]
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\macidwe.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\sobicyt.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\tdxdowkc.exe
    macidwe <delete service>
    sobicyt <delete service>
    tdxdowkc <delete service>
    purity
    EmptyTemp
    [start explorer]
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the light Yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Lastly in this post

We need to create a Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) Log

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) from one of the links below and save to your Desktop.

Primary Mirror

Secondary Mirror

DSS will do the following:
  • Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, Internet Cache Files, and empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for an analyst to review.
  • Automatically run HijackThis. It will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed. So if HijackThis is not installed and DSS prompts you to download it, please answer yes.
Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges when using Deckard's System Scanner.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts.
  • If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not malicious.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open in Notepad:
    • main.txt
    • extra.txt
  • If not, they both can be found in the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder.
  • Please copy (<Control>+C) and paste (<Control>+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
Note: When running DSS, some firewalls may warn that DSS is trying to access the Internet; especially if you are asked to download the most current version of HijackThis. Please ensure that DSS is given permission to access the internet.
Note: If you get a warning from your anti-virus while DSS is scanning, please allow DSS to continue as the scan is not harmful.

  • So when you come back please post
  • contents of JavaRa log
  • OTMoveIt2 report
  • the two DSS logs

I can't seem to download dss. I get a security alert that says my current security settings will not allow download. I tried changing them but with no luck.

Couple of other things.

Have you still got Vipre and if so have you tried disabling it?

If you have uninstalled Vipre, does Authentium have a firewall or resident protection that needs disabling?

Also you could check to see if you have Windows Firewall enabled.

How to Disable Windows Firewall in Windows XP SP2

1. Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK.
2. On the General tab, click Off (not recommended), and then click OK.

If none of the foregoing works come back and post the JavaRa log and OTMoveIt2 report along with a new HijackThis log.

Hello again Raider 1,

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix.

Included in the tutorial are instructions for the installation of a recovery program if you don't already have it - Windows XP Recovery Console.

For more information on the Windows XP Recovery Console read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058.

When you reboot your computer after installation, you will see the additional option for the Recovery Console present. Don't select Recovery Console as we don't need it. It is only there for emergency recovery use. By default, your main OS is selected here. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows. That is normal.

Once you have completed installation of the the Recovery Console.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
Next

How to Enable Windows Firewall in Windows XP SP2

1. Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK.
2. On the General tab, click On (recommended), and then click OK.

So when you come back please post
  • ComboFix report
  • a new HijackThis log

Yes, something is getting in the way.

I thought it was Windows Firewall, Vipre or Authentium, sometimes it's an anti-virus's resident protection that does it or a an anti-spyware or firewall.

I think you have disabled all of those though.

One thing to try is to download in Safe Mode.

Boot into Safe Mode:

1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Let me know how you get on. :)
