Hey-

Working on a friend's computer, I'm pretty sure there is a type of SmitFraud virus (with others possibly infecting in addition). Symptoms include (but aren't limited to): "VIRUS ALERT" written next to tray time, no "logoff" button, no access to C:, control panel, all programs (from start menu), task manager etc., wallpaper disappears to a white screen. etc etc. I found a few step-by-step removal procedures, but being this isn't my PC, I wanted to get some specific steps.

Below is a paste of first Hi Jack log, ran 12:05 am early Thursday morning:

Hello, my name is fenzodahl512 and welcome to Geekstogo... Please do the following...

Please visit below webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

For more information on the Windows XP Recovery Console read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058.

Once you install the Recovery Console, when you reboot your computer, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well. DO NOT select Recovery Console as we don't need it. By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows. That is normal.

Post the log from ComboFix (located in C:\combofix.txt) when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

Regards

Upon dragging the XP Recovery File onto the ComboFix.exe icon and executing combofix, I received a message "ComboFix detected rootkit, needs to reboot"...so I let it reboot.

Upon reboot, cmd screen runs ComboFix & Recovery Console is installed.

ComboFix has finished and things are looking better already...Here are the logs:
