Making my NAS accessable from the internet

I want to set up my NAS so I can access it from the internet. I've have set up port forwarding for port 21, I have a DNS hosting account but I have been unable to make it work. I'm guessing that I'm missing something simiple but if someone could brake it down for me it would be a big help.
