Hi lukn4help.

There are still quite a few things to do.

Please print out a copy of these instructions so that they are easy to follow and so that you have access to them, when you have to reboot your PC

First, get rid of NewDotNet. Go to Control Panel: Add/Remove Programs and remove it. If it is not there, go here and follow Procedure 4: http://www.newdotnet.com/removal.html

Set your system to show hidden files. Click on link below, if you do not know how to do this

Show hidden files

Next we need to download several programs. Do not run any of the programs until instructed to do so and follow the sequence of the instructions.

A malicious .DLL file is disrupting the LSP chain on your computer. We need to get rid of it.

1. Please download LSPFix from here.
2. Run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
3. Check the I know what I'm doing box.
4. In the Keep box you may see one or more instances of newdotnet.
5. Select every instance of newdotnet and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
6. When you are done click Finish>>.

Carry out a free online virus scan from the following link.

Trend housecall

Download a free 14 day trial of ewido

Ewido

Install it and then double click on the new icon for the program. You can't miss it, it's a big yellow E. It will ask you to upgrade the database. Follow the instructions to update then close it down.

Download the following program.

Cleanup. Install it but do not run it.

Now reboot into SAFE MODE by tapping the F8 key whilst your PC starts up. Select Safe Mode.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Delete, Processes and if the following is running end task.

SPOOLSRV32.EXE
XPSP2FW.EXE

Rescan with HJT and check the following if present.

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://ipassist.biz/index.php?id=11258

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click FIX CHECKED.

Next, using windows explorer locate the following files and if found, delete thm

C:\Program Files\NewDotNet\ <<<------entire folder
C:\WINDOWS\RESOURCE.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xpsp2fw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Services\{1F09DE85-795A-4304-84CA-0A7682734903}\SVCHOST.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System\spoolsrv32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuclient.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\PARTYPOKER\IEEXTENSION.DLL

Now run Cleanup to clear out temp files, junk etc.

Now Run Ewido, Once it is ready click on the Scanner button, Select drives if you have more than one and then start.

grab a cup of coffee, sandwiches, book and sleeping bag as this will take some time. Once the first problem is detected ensure you tick the box for all (bottom left) and allow it to continue.

At the end of the scan, it may ask if you would like to delete anything found in archive or zipped files, OK that request, then click on save report. SAVE to the default location, it will then generate a text file. Copy that to post in this thread.

Carry out another HJT scan and post the log back here, together with the ewido log, so we can sort out any remnants

Hi lukn4help,

;) Forgot you need XP for ewido :tazz:

Try some of these alternatives for free online virus scans.

Kaspersky

Panda Activescan

Bitdefender

F-secure

Download the following, install but do not run it yet.

Cleanup

Set PC to show hidden files Link if you don't know how

Your HJT log isn't looking too bad

Reboot into Safe Mode by tapping F8 key whilst pc reboots, select safe mode.

Rescan with HJT and check the following

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O16 - DPF: ConferenceRoom Java Client - http://pix.sexyads.n...080/java/cr.cab

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click fix checked

Usinmg windows explorer locate the following and delete it.

C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

Now run the Cleanup program to clear out temp files, junk etc.

Reboot pc normally, rescan with HJT and post the log back and let me know how the virus scans went

Hi lukn4help.

From your log, I see nothing in the ways of trojans, nor any evil entities attempting to possess your computer, except for Windows but it's too late for that one. :tazz:

Congratulations your log now appears to be clean. ;)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.
