problems running malware program

Hi! I've tried doing all of the steps required before posting a hijack log, but I encountered a difficulty in running the malware (mbam setup) program. It is giving me the following error in a "Setup window" "External exception C000006".

The item that brought me here in the first place is that I keep getting a "Windows Update is ready for your computer notice, but every time I try to install it keeps getting hung up.
