Yesterday, my laptop was infected by the nasty Antivirus 2009 Malware.... So, as I usually do, I googled this error and eventually, I registered to this site to find a solution.
Then, I headed to the "You Must Read This Before Posting A Hijackthis Log, Malware Cleaning Guide" I followed all the instructions, I d/l the ATF Cleaner, and the Malwarebytes' anti malware through the link to "downloads.GEEKSTOGO.COM", then I switched from Avira AntiVir to Avast Home, as your "free antivirus applications" page recommends.
So, here' the thing, the Avast boot-up scanner detected that the mbam-setup.exe is affected with a malware... Now, I have absolutely no idea whether this infection happened from the download source or after I d/l it to my laptop

This is a false positive, it has happened before. It is so frustrating since MBAM does such a good job in malware removal. Don't know why these programs don't detect other anti-spyware scanners. It really wrecks MBAMS reputation.

I suggest reporting it to your anti-virus as a False Positive.

Thanks for letting us know about your experience. I will let the Avast! and MalwareBytes' Anti-malware folks know so that it can be corrected.

I can assure you our version is clean. Our download links are actually a redirect to a file uploaded by MBAM directly.

To add about false positives. Maybe the easiest analogy is a vaccine. To be effective a vaccine must contain bits of the original virus so that your body then recognizes it as an infection. Anti-malware products contain items in their definitions that an anti-virus may flag as suspicious. It takes cooperation between the anti-malware and anti-virus vendors to quickly resolve these false alerts, or as we call them, 'false positives'.
