I have an AMD Athlon 1.1 Ghz on Gigabyte motherboard, with 512 MB RAM. Often, my computer freezes up. I cannot even tell it to shut down, and must turn off the power on the back of the case. Then, when trying to reboot, I get the message "hard drive not detected".

Sometimes, when it boots up, it takes 6 minutes or more.

I use the one ISA slot for Roland midi interface and sound canvas, and three PCI slots, one for NVanta Video, one for Midiman audiophile audio, one for Agere generic modem. I have a Lexmark X74 75 All in One printer/scanner/fax, and an Epson 3170 Perfection Scanner. But these are add ons, this computer has been doing the slow and unrecognizing routine for months.

Any similar experiences? Thank you for your interest and help.

hi wachob2000
Welcome to geeksto go
when did this problem start was it after you added any thing? sound like you may have something run in the backround that is using a lot of system resources hit ctrl, atl, delete all at the same time just once A window will come up write down whats running in there and post back here. or you may have some spyware running download and run spybot there is a link in my signature. only remore the things in RED.
