Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following programs, if found:

Security IGuard
Virtual Maid
Search Maid

Exit Add/Remove Programs.

*IMPORTANT* Be sure you know how to VIEW HIDDEN FILES

Press CTRL ALT DELETE to open Windows Task Manger. Click on the Processes tab and end the processes that were identified as related and any of the processes named in the list a bit further down.
MediaAccK.exe
MediaAccess.exe
wp.exe

*Click Here to download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Extract the program to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\wp.exe
C:\wp.bmp
C:\Windows\sites.ini
C:\Windows\popuper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\helper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe
C:\Windows\System32\ole32vbs.exe
C:\Windows\system32\msole32.exe
C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe
C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccess.exe

*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

While your computer is restarting, tap the F8 key continually until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following (please do NOT try to find them by "search" because they will not show up that way)

FOLDERS to delete (in bold) if found:

C:\Program Files\Search Maid
C:\Program Files\Virtual Maid
C:\Windows\System32\Log Files
C:\Program Files\Security IGuard

Reboot into normal mode.

*Download and install Registrar Lite version 2.00
*Double click the purple Registrar Lite icon on your desktop.
*Copy the line below and paste it into the "Address" field (located at the top) of the program:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

*Click the "Go" button.
*It will take you into the "Policies" folder.
*Locate the "System" folder (in the right panel)
*If found, right-click on the System folder and go to Delete
*Be very careful that you only delete the System folder that is inside the Policies folder.

Reboot your computer again.

1.) Download the Hoster from HERE Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.

2.) Download: DelDomains.inf
Should the link above display the text instead of downloading the file, then copy & paste the text into notepad and save the file as DellDomains.inf
To use: right-click and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

3.) Download, install, and run CleanUp!

Post back with a new log when you are done.

Regards,

Next I went to the control panel to see if I could find Security IGuard, Virtual Maid and Search Maid. Couldn't find any of them. However one note, before I asked for your help I saw IGuard on my desktop and deleted it. Not sure it did any good, but I can't find it.

I next ran Killbox and deleted the listed files. I then went looking in safe mode for the same files and couldn't find them. I then ran RegistrarLite, and tried to run Hoster although I'm not sure if I did it right because after I right clicked and hit install, nothing really happened and I never was prompted to run cleanup and didn't know how to get there. Anyway here is my current Hijack log, and by the way, my background screen is now black instead of blue, for whatever that means. Thanks for your help and i look forward to hearing back from you.

Looks like something didn't go as planned.
Let's see how bad it is.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://letgohome.com/hp.htm?id=33464
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {467FAEB2-5F5B-4c81-BAE0-2A4752CA7F4E} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\3UGHUM~1.DLL

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe

O16 - DPF: {5790C9D6-3568-2846-D832-382F29C7DFA2} - http://69.50.182.94/1/rdgUS1862.exe

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: nple8ogjuyw.dll

Then reboot, run HijackThis again and post a new log.

In the killbox program, select the Replace on Reboot option and put a checkmark in Use dummy.
Copy & paste this path
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nple8ogjuyw.dll
into the Full path to file to delete box.

Let the computer reboot into safe mode and run HijackThis.
Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://letgohome.com/hp.htm?id=33464
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {467FAEB2-5F5B-4c81-BAE0-2A4752CA7F4E} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\3UGHUM~1.DLL

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: nple8ogjuyw.dll

Reboot back to normal, run HijackThis again and post the new log.

The log looks much cleaner this time.

I am still in the black screen mode however. Can still see all the Desktop icons but with a black screen. Where are my beautiful palm trees of XP?

You managed to pick up two new dialers:

Fix these please:
O16 - DPF: {333B1DB4-BBE4-2695-23C0-50C274DE9828} - http://69.50.182.94/1/rdgUS1862.exe
O16 - DPF: {65BD9710-9C8C-796A-27F8-16897A8E4933} - http://69.50.182.94/1/rdgUS1862.exe

and have a look at my site (link in signature)

Then open Notepad, and copy EVERYTHING in the code box below and paste it into a new notepad file. Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as fix.reg on your Desktop. Make sure there is NO blank line above "REGEDIT4":

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run]
"notepad.exe"=-
"notepad2.exe"=-
"winlogon.exe"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"WallpaperStyle"=-
"Wallpaper"=-
"NoDispBackgroundPage"=-
"NoDispAppearancePage"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"Wallpaper"=-
"WallpaperStyle"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoActiveDesktopChanges"=-
"NoActiveDesktop"=-
"NoSaveSettings"=-
"ClassicShell"=-
"NoThemesTab"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop]
"NoChangingWallPaper"=-

Locate fix.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES.

Reboot your computer again.

Everything looks great after that last fix. I was able to get my palm trees back and everything. Thanks for the help, that was fairly painless. Time to install the antivirus software.
