Hey everyone. This is my first post on this site, and I am really in quite an annoying pickle! I JUST built a new computer consisting of:

Intel Core 2 Duo 3ghz
Asus P5N-T Deluxe
Nvidia GX 260
4GB Patriot 1066 ddr2
OS = XP 64 bit

Whenever I run Half-Life 2 or TF2 (only one's I've tried), the game runs okay for a short time but then the graphics start messing up and everything starts becoming weird shades of colors, words cannot be read, and it becomes near impossible to make anything out. I've downloaded the latest drivers for my chipset and video card, but it hasn't fixed anything. I just put the computer together 2 days ago and this is really ruining my fun... lol! I ran Oblivion for a few minutes earlier to see if anything happened and nothing did. I'm using a widescreen monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 920NW)and I have the aspect ratio in Steam set to 16:10 and the resolution to 1440x900, but I don't know if this could possible be a cause for the problem or not. I'm totally out of ideas :). Thanks in advance to everyone who can offer any advice.

Sorry for the self-bump guys, but I actually have a thought to throw in. Could it be the power supply? I'm using a 550w psu, but I'm running all of the above, a dvdr drive, and 4-5 fans. Would graphics porlbems like that occur because of not enough power?

if your running an Nvidia 260 and only have a 550w ps.... UPGRADE!. While at idle it has sufficient power, at max draw it consumes approximately 267 watts. That doesn't count the processor and all the other items in your system. I would strongly recommend something like a 700-750 watt ps.

Try oblivion again but play for a little longer (actually play... sitting in a town won't work your hardware). Try running a couple background app's too to makeup for the hardware requirement differences between oblivion and hl2/tf2.

But starjax is right, 550w is not enough for that machine.
