Hi

My computer is also infected by this: win32/adware.virtumonde and win32.privacyremover.m64

On my screen it says in big letters that your computer is effected. See attached screen shot.

I tried to do system restore to a previous point but the only point available now is the one whe re the virus was effected. I did it and nothing happened and the virus is still there
My McAfee Antivirus has expired but even then I did a Scan in safe mode and it didnt find anything.
I downloaded AVG Antivirus (free) from download.com and tried to insgtall it but it wont run the installation process.
I am able to connect to internet with my effected computer. But it won't OPEN any anti-virus site. I am able to search on google but when I click on any link it goes to some adware website and doesn't go to the link I click on.
Now my computer wont also connect on this site.

My effected computer is besides me now. I am using my landlord's computer. My computer is my best friend. Please tell me how can i make it good.

I can use Outlook on my computer and send mails through it. So if you want to know some details from my computer, i can copy them on outlook and send it by email to my landlord's computer and u can read it.

Please help me ASAP. Please SOS!

Thanks and God bless!

I am not even able to go to trendsecure site to download the link to hijackdetails. it wont open the link. :)

i am on another computer right now. i can't have this for too long. some help!

ok i have figured out that i can go to any site from the computer that is working, download anything, and with the help of a USB take it to the infected computer and run it on that.

so please tell me what needs to be done

Hi,

I have run the trend micro hijack this in the effected computer. Now I have two results...One has opened in the trend micro hijack this window itself and the other has opened in Notepad...which one should I save and post here? Please tell me....

Hi,

Hi sunnierstudent

welcome to geekstogo :)

....dont bump your post, the way we look for threads to be replied to is to look for posts with zero replies. and also remember that there are many people needing help.

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log.

Hi
Thanks a lot for the reply. Really appreciated!

Can I run combo fix in normal mode? Because my computer is hanging whenver i run it in normal mode.

Also, after taking the HijackThis details, I didnt delete the trendmicro tool and the details that had been saved.
I tried to run combofix in normal mode without doing the "recovery console" thing. And it prompted me that:

"combofix has detected the presence of rootkit activity and needs to reboot the machine".

And then there is a blue screen that says your hard disk has error because of a recently installed hardware or software. My computer hangs and I click on switch off/on button and it keeps hanging when I start in normal mode. After 10-12 tries I am able to get into normal mode and get the computer working.

So I want to know:
1) Is there a possibilty to repair with the Hijackdetails given above and without doing the combofix?

If not,

2) Can combofix be run in safe mode?

Please reply best and ASAP.

as i cannot connect to these sites through the effected computer...i downloaded combofix application through the computer which is working...and then transferred it to the desktop of the effected computer with a USB key

now i am clicking on combofix in safe mode. it has a lion's mouth. on the first double click it tries to open the progam and then nothing happens for about 30 odd seconds. so i clicked again..;and this time it says, "combofix has detected the presence of rootkit activity and needs to reboot the machine". so i click on Ok and it starts rebooting the system :)

p.s.: i am trying to run combofix without installing windows recovery console because my computer is hanging a lot right now

ok, delete the combofix you have.

and then try this, and see if it first works in normal mode:

Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.
