Hi please can you help me, I had already posted re my daughter forgetting her user login password, (Completely understand why you wont provide assistance cheers re this) my brother advised me to use the system restore function. As software came pre installed I inserted the disc labeled External Recovery Media. This then created a back up to which i was then to restore from. However when I tried to restore it is saying that boot mgr is missing to press ctl alt and del to restart however all that happens is the same message. I really am concerned I thought I d try posting here in a bid to fix it by myself. Hope that someone can help me Allie

OK dont worry this is a simply fix. You will need to insert the Windows Vista Installation Disk or Recovery Disk. You then need to go into your bios and in the boot options make sure the first device is boot from disk. Computer might restart but ensure the disk is in the drive then you should be faced with a screen that looks something like this: Posted Image.

Click on repair and then let the computer 'fix itself'. Remove disk from drive and then go back into the bios and ensure the computer is booting from the HDD and no the dvd drive.

If theres anything you dont understand just say and I'll be happy to help. :)

Hi There thank you so very much for your help!! However still not much is happening I will give you step by step what I have did and you can maybe let me know if there is anything that I can do different:

1) Switch on Notebook, and pressed F2 to enter Bios Setup Utility.
2)There was 5 tabs : Main Advanced, Security Boot and Exit. I selected Boot.
3) Once in at boot the screen said:

boot Priority order:
1: USB FDC
2: USB KEY
3: IDE 2: TSSTcorpCDW/DVD SN-M242D - (
4: IDE 4: Samsung HM060II - (s1)
5: PCI BEV

I changed the order to:

1: IDE 2: TSSTcorpCDW/DVD SN-M242D - (
2: USB FDC
3: USB KEY
4: IDE 4: Samsung HM060II - (s1)
5: PCI BEV

5) I then selected exit - save changes in configuration:

6) The system then started up, the screen stated windows is loading files.

7) When loaded the screen states Hi Grade with a button to click restore backup or reboot

8) I selected restore backup

9)A message came up to state this operation will destroy all of the data on your c: press control and c to cancel

press any key to continue

10) I then got the message that this file type is a NTFS
quick formatting 47270m

Tasks complete returing you to the main menu. Press reboot button once at the main menu. If you would like to restart machine select reboot once at main menu

Press any button to continue

I press reboot

a message appears stating that machine is rebooting remove the cd.

At first i did not remove the cd and came back to menu with restore backup or reboot .

I selected reboot removed cd and on the reboot went into F2 to change boot order back to default

and still message comes up stating boot mgr is missing.

I tried this process several times!
(Also I can not access the system restore function by pressing F8, a although manual states that i should receive a menu like the picture you have shown above by doing this.)

I would be most grateful for any advice I have tried to contact the maufacturers technical support i was held on a que for 2 hours yesterday morning, for 1 hr and twenty minutes I was at que position 1 however my call was still not taken i then decided to send details to technical support via email however I have yet to receive a reply. Once again thank you for the advice and would be most grateful if you had any more!! Allie

Hi Allie, sorry to hear you're still having problems. The following website maybe of assitance to you http://support.micro...kb/927391/en-us.
Method 1 was basically what I was trying to do. Does this sound like the steps you took? If yes and it didnt work try method 2. If you didn't get to the screen I mentioned what screen did you get?

Anyway hope this helps.

Hi The front of the CD that I used states: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic External recovery media: With instructions to insert the cd and restart the machine 2) Select "make backup" this will create a recovery or select restore backup to restore the recovery. I had had followed these instructions initially to create the backup however have not yet been able to restore the data. although the message comes up stating task complete when try to reboot system the messgae i get is boot mgr is missing.

The screen that I get when booting from disc is just one stating restore from disc or reboot and when not booting from disc it states that boot mgr is missing thank you all again for any assistance you can provide!!

What kind of laptop do you have? It sounds like this isn't a full Windows disk, like the one that Hendaz is expecting.

Ok Allie im not entirely sure which cd you have. I think the following article may help http://neosmart.net/...-disc-download/. It includes a link to the recovery cd you may need but to download it you will need a cd burner with software to burn an iso file. If you do mange to get the cd then you will be able to insert the disk into your disk drive and then you will be to use the repair option from the image above.

Good to hear Hi-Grade have responded to your emails. Im guessing there sending out a dvd with all the drivers etc on so you can bring your computer back to the state it was in orginally. However, whilst waiting for the disk you may want to try method 2 from the following article: http://support.micro...kb/927391/en-us.
If this doesnt work then wait for your disk off Hi-Grade and following their instructions. Thanks, Hendaz.
