windows xp upgrade

i put my windows xp home into my cd drive,
then i when into that blue screen pressed enter then press F8 and the i press r(for repair) .
it then said it was upgrading windows.
when computer restarted it went to the windows installing srceen and i wanted to know if that would deleted all my files in my documents. so i stopped the windows installation. please help
i don't what i should do because i don't have a back up of my computer,

Help me
