I got the dreaded smitfraud warning which I managed to get rid of by deleting WP.exe and running adaware but my hom epage under IE has been hijacked

The home page hijacker seems to be this one in the log below
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdocpl.dll/security.htm#subID=MPV;401

Is the cure as simple as just checking for deletion under 'Hijack This' and restoring the normal Home Page via Options in IE? I'll wait for your advice anyway

Cheers
Swaggy

Hi Swagman

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Download CWShredder (there is a link in my signature), unzip it, and save it on the Desktop. Please do not run it yet, though.
Run CWShredder to fix your CWS problem.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://65.196.233.43/search.php

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

Exit Explorer.Reboot as normal.

Hi 'Thatman'

The procedure worked a treat thanks and the hijack had vanished - normal home page has been restored.

New HT log after procedure posted below, we may relegate this PC to simple 'Office' jobs now so we've taken it off line and replaced it with a new Pentium 4 so we'll have to leave the previous files you mentioned where they are. Thanks for your help though - much appreciated.
