Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

I receive the above message when I try to access Geeks to Go from school.
We do use a proxy at school which I think might cause the problem however I'm not sure.
Anyone else getting those problem? Or can an admin confirm this.

Regards,
Olrik

The only compression we use is GZip. A very common compression used to reduce page size and load time. It's supported by all modern browsers (IE4+, ALL Firefox, Opera 5+, Netscape 4+...)

I see.. Can it be caused by the fact the school I am at uses a proxy?
I do use Firefox3 to browse the site from school, so the browser shouldn't be the problem.

That would be a question for your school. While Gzip is extremely popular it does require some system resources to uncompress the page. For that reason they may chose not to support it.

Interesting, doing some testing I was able to get an error resolving Gzip... I'll keep looking into it. :)

hehe, at least I've caused something good :)
I'll ask the IT dudes at my school about this.

If you want me to do any tests just shout :)

Right, I'm at school again!
And I'm happy to say that the encoding error is gone! :)

I've disabled gzip.

The technical explanation is that the forum software uses gzip to compress content by default. We run Apache 2, which while it supports gzip, doesn't always play nice. Apache 2 has a new default compression, deflate. Mod_deflate has the advantage of being able to compress any file type, server wide. In fact, we'll probably be compressing everything except images, PDFs, ZIPs, and other files that are already compressed. It's not fully functioning yet, but will be by this weekend. :)

Nice :)
I was quite glad to see Geeks to Go worked from school! :)
Now I can even respond when I'm at school.
