I'm running Windows XP Pro. I've run memory test on the computer with no problems. I've run System File Checker and Scan disk. In my event viewer I keep getting a system error at the same time computer crashes.

----------------------------------
Source: Service Control Manager
Category: None
Event ID: 7000

"The REGSpy service failed to start due to the following error: They system cannot find the file specified."

Filename - netevent.dll
File Version - 5.1.2600.0
-------------------------------------

This error occurs in both Normal and Safe Mode and even on boot (although not very often during boot.) I unchecked system restart when fatal error occurs. So when this happens the hard drive is still spinning but the monitor turns off and no longer has a signal. At first I thought it was power supply or video card but I don't know what this error is.

Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it?

Thanks,

The REGSpy service seems to be part of bitdefender....how did you go about removing it?

through add/remove programs. Do you think this is what is causing computer to restart. I removed bitdefender months ago and I just started getting this error 3 days ago.

Lets take a look at what is starting up when your computer does. Please download HiJackThis, install it, and double-click on the HiJackThis.exe icon. On the first screen click on Open the Misc Tools Section...On the next screen, click on the Generate StartupList log button and post a copy of the log here. You need not check either of the boxes next to this button.
