I tried searching and didn't see anything.
And to the poster above, i've tried uninstalling/reinstalling many times like i said in my post.

Try reinstalling steam? (Which means a manual uninstall of steam to make sure everything gets wiped). Or try getting the update via another source.
how would i get it from another source? I tried google

I suppose you could try manually removing Steam in case the installer isn't uninstalling it correctly. Check the second part of the linked article. Restart and then install it again from the second link.

Hey I just had the same problem. Searched this topic while trying to fix it when i came across ur problem. It randomly came to me i did something that may have messed it up. I messed around with my internet cause my ethernet didn't work which i also fixed. but anyway. heres what fixed my steam updating...
click where you type in a website and type it "whats my ip" and copy and paste the result as you would a website and it will bring you to your modem home page. i myself have verizon. i clicked on my computer name, clicked enable applications, general, and turn off security. Or to quicken this up just click your firewall. sometimes the least thing can change your firewall. try it. i clicked no security, re-opened steam, and it began to update after i too removed steam, re downloaded it, restarted my computer, but good luck

Hi i get an error message when trying to update steam it says "Steam.exe (main exception): Unable to load library steam.dll"
Can anyone help me?
