Hi beech

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Download CWShredder (there is a link in my signature), unzip it, and save it on the Desktop. Please do not run it yet, though.
Run CWShredder to fix your CWS problem.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.
Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:
C:\WINDOWS\popuper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intmonp.exe

Exit the Task Manager when finished.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.qfind.net/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.qfind.net/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.qfind.net/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://www.qfind.net/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://www.qfind.net/
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WindowsFY] c:\bsw.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
C:\WINDOWS\popuper.exe<--Delete this file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intmonp.exe<--Delete this file
c:\bsw.exe<--Delete this folder

Exit Explorer.

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:
Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes. Let the system reboot.
C:\WINDOWS\popuper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intmonp.exe

Reboot as normal.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Thanks Thatman - Apart from being thrown by task manager not ending those processes - everything else seems to have worked see my logs for HJT.log and Panda virus.

Hi beech

Download the following file and unzip it to your desktop. Then doubleclick it and grant permission to merge the registry entries.

http://ralphcaddell..../Background.zip

My thanks to Yellowhammer for this fix

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Reboot into Safe Mode: Click here if you don't know how to do this.

Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot.
Copy and Paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in where upon you should answer Yes.
Let the system reboot.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wldr.dll

12. Reboot into normal mode.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.log we will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Hi thatman- followed instructions but I was not sure about background.zip file - what does this do. Also when in safe mode and running Killbox I could not copy and paste but did manage to get rid of the wldr.dll. the only thing left seems to be this:

Activescan report

Adware:Adware/BlueScreenWarningNo disinfected Windows Registry

I looked through the registry but could not find this??

Here is my latest HJK log: It seems OK to me??

Hi beech

Please search your system for the following items:

C:\Windows\sites.ini
C:\Windows\popuper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wldr.dll
C:\Windows\System32\helper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\guninst.exe
C:\Windows\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe
C:\wp.exe
C:\Windows\System32\ole32vbs.exe
C:\Windows\system32\msole32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\param32.dll
C:\wp.bmp
Desktop\Remove Spyware.url
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wldr.dll

If you find any of the files then delete them with killbox

Then run the desktop fix again.

Hi thatman

thanks for the last advice - 1 file was found = sites.ini - killbox ran so now looks OK

the background.zip file still did not work or an other one I tried in this forum - not sure why. BUT I down loaded this

http://www.kellys-ko.../desktoptab.reg - ran it and ;)

the display properties are back - thanks modracer2.

this was run from a folder not the desktop but that shouldn't make a difference ???

I now have all recommended progs on my system so just need to keep updating them

Any other tips as this was new to me nad certainly could do without the hassle ;)

I wish to say a big thanks thatman for your help and support - without which I was in deep doda!

Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use). Click Here
QUOTE
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox.
http://www.mozilla.o...oducts/firefox/
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .
You can download Sun's newer JVM for Windows at http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html.
http://www.java.com/...load/manual.jsp Windows (Offline Installation)

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats.

All at this household are sighing relief - this is a hard lesson to learn especially as we are usually carefull and did have a anti virus/popup prog installed. Now removed and replaced with your recommends.
