Computer restarts everytime I try to run a virus scan

It seems that whenever I try to run a virus scan, the computer just restarts. I tried to download hijackthis, but whenever I try downloading that, it restarts too. I'm pretty sure its a virus, but I'm not sure what to do now. Right now, it seems if I download any program, the computer restarts.

Any thoughts, help? Thanks.
