Cannot validate my copy of windows

I reformatted and re ghosted my PC with a copy of windows. I did not bother installing it with my cd. Because it was alot faster re-ghosting it. But for some reason when i try enter my product key from my valid windows xp cd it will not accept it. Even when i try to change product key. Can anyone please help me with this problem

I am not sure I understand. You formatted and ghosted what? After format there is nothing left to be ghosted. If you used a preexisting windows ghost then it's probably not of the same version that the product key belong to, or it simply have a different product key, not the one that you used.

Please explain.
