Microphone Won't Work With Skype or Yahoo

I just recently rebooted my laptop back to original factory settings to recover from desktop issues. Now that I have done that my desktop issues are resolved however my microphone doesnt work. It will record me on sound recorder but at a very low volume. On Skype and Yahoo it doesnt even record my sounds. I checked properties under volume mixer and set the mic at 100%, but that didnt seem to help much. Before I rebooted my PC it worked fine. Can anyone please help me with this issue?
