i just built my first system and the motherboard i have only has one place for ide cables how do i run four peripherals off this system.

need more info.... what are all the pheriperals u can connect... if u have 4 ide pheriperals then sorry u can connect 4... but only two... also provide details of ur config

Modern boards now have one IDE channel for 2 items the rest are SATA connections
You might be able to add a PCI card, although you will properly have PCIExpress slots, you will need to check the manual or motherboard if you know the difference between the slots.
