Internt Explorer is hijacked, normal home page is redirected to About:blank. Every time I open Internet explorer AVG informs me of 2 or 3 new viruses trojan dowloader agent 11 q. I am also unable to get to requested sites due to the about:blank page, it will not display my requested information.
While in safe mode ( windows xp pro) i ran cwshredder, i ran cwservice remove and merged info.
I ran about buster. I saved the log and wrote down its location as well. when i went to retrieve it to post it here it was unable to be found even through searching my computer. It did tell me upon completion of scan that there were no ads found.
I cleaned out temp files, temp internet files, and recycle bin.
after restarting my computer to normal mode i attempted to go to Trend Micro Housecall but am unable to reach the site through IE which is the only browser on my computer

As i said i am unable to retrieve the AboutBuster log, but following is my HijackThis:

Are you using Word or Wordpad to open up HijackThis? Just asking because all the entries should be single line and your's is double.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download AboutBuster http://www.greyknigh...AboutBuster.zip and unzip it to a folder on your the Desktop. Run AboutBuster and click OK. Click Update and then Check For Update to see if there are any updates. Close the program now.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click 'Kill process' for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check):

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Thanks for the help! I wasn't previously using wordpad to open HJT log files, I was however only able for a time to get online info through my outlook express program. I was lost and thought the best thing for me to do waould be to use that to send the results to a computer in my house w/ no virus in explorer so that I would be able to post the log to you w/ out haveing to take an hour to write it all down and then type it all out. I hope that decision didn't cause you any greif, I'm still pretty new, though I learn pretty quick. The following log is infact in notepad and since following the steps you posted to me earlier I am now again able to open IE w/out any troubles, viruses, or other nasties. *phew* Thank you!

OK, a little more to go and we should be clean.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\arnkm.dll/sp.html#89117
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Run AboutBuster and click OK. Click Start->OK and then follow the rest of the prompts to scan (choose Yes/OK for all). It will ask you if you want a second scan, choose Yes. Save the log file and post it here.

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.
