Hello there 2212,

Could you please answer some questions so that I can get a clear image of what might be wrong.

How is your network set-up? Does it go from the modem to the router then to the computer? Or does it go another route?
2002 kb/s down- and 74 kb/s up-load is actually quite decent. This shouldn't let the pages load for 3 minutes

Do you have any other symptoms?
Think about pop-ups etc.

Regards,
Olrik

i do not have pop ups, i set up a router for wireless use, my desktop is connected directly to the router and the router is connected directly to the modem
plus when i try to scan again, it almost never succeeds.
i scanned again and the results were 1581 down 98 up

I would like you to download a tool I made. It's the first time I let someone try it, if you would like to give some feedback on that I would appreciate it.

Please download Troubleshooting Olrik.
Save it to a folder of it's own. (IE, C:\TSO)
Open TSO.exe and run the Scan.
Note: The graphical user interface might stall but the program will continue.

When it's done making a log, open the folder and right click the text file.
Select the menu option: Send To and select Compressed Folder
Please upload the compressed folder to your next post.

Regards,
Olrik

EDIT: Fixed link :)

Hello again 2212,

I can't see anything wrong aside from the 'echoes' giving some strange behaviour.
Also, I noticed that you have the following windows installations:
Windows
Windows.0
Windows.1

Any particular reason why you did 2 parallel installations?

Olrik

i have no clue,
when i start up the computer, there is a black screen with three choices of window xp. the first one, i tried, installs windows xp and the third one is the one i use. this also happens to my laptop. i have tried to reformat my laptop with the cd the factory gave me but every time the black screen appears when booting up.

Just a small fix for this.
(Use this only on your computer, not the laptop as it can be different for the laptop)

Open Start Menu and select Run...
In the run box type: notepad C:\boot.ini
A notepad will pop up, please replace the current text with the text in the code-box.
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

That should get rid of the screen showing the 3 different Windows installations.
Now to get back to the network problem.

The PC that is slow is connected through a wireless connection?
How far away from each other are the transmitter and receiver?

Olrik

I can't see any problems in the log.
Even if you're using chrome the pages still load slowly?
Is it just specific pages that load slowly or everything?

Please open start menu and select Run
In the run box type: cmd
A black box will appear, type: traceroute www.facebook.com > C:\route.txt
Then after that's finished, type the following on the next line: notepad C:\route.txt
Please copy and paste the content of the notepad file in your next reply.

Olrik

'traceroute' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch

the internet has bursts of lucidity; sometimes its normal but usually it is slow

I'm sorry. Made a silly mistake.
The command is "tracert" and the name of it is a "Trace Route".
Please follow instructions above with the command tracert
Could you also answer my other 2 questions? :)

Hmm.. I can't see any problems in the logs.
Is it a possibility to connect the modem directly to the Computer?
