Hello and welcome to Geeks To Go.

Lets start out with some general scans and see if we cant clean things up a little.

Please download Spybot Search & Destroy and AdAware.

Follow all the instructions on this website to run a scan with both of these softwares.

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

After that, I will need to see two different logs from HiJackThis. The first is the normal log like you posted here. To get the other one, follow these directions.

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Post back with those logs and we can continue from there.

Good Luck

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

WinTools
WebSearch Tools
Media Pass
P2P Networking <- Optional but recommended
Kazaa 2.7.1 <- Optional but recommended - Likely the root of your problems

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Please delete these folders using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools
C:\Program Files\Media Pass

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\WINDOWS\WINFRW.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\popuper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\irmtdexi.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\intmonp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hotkeysvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cthelper.exe
c:\bsw.exe

After that, Reboot.

After you reboot, you have a decision to make. You have two antivirus programs installed. They can conflict with each other and cause serious problems on your system.

After that, reboot and post back with a fresh HiJackThis log and let me know how things are running.

ok done and done

ok first i ran HIJackThis and sellected all of the files You told me to all of them were there,

but there is a but

O23 - Service: WinTools for IE service (WinToolsSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WToolsS.exe

this one was on the listed but at the end it said in brackets (file not found)
but i put a checkmark next to it anyways and then i clicked fix checked

after all of that i rebooted into safe mode and went to the add remove programs list, i removed all of the ones you told me to except Wintools, it was not present.

also when i tried to remove WebSearch Tools i got an error message stating that an error occured this program may have already been uninstalled
Would you like to remove WebSearch Tools form the add remove programs list. I choose yes

i then went to delete the folders using windows explorer
the C:\Programfiles\mediapass one was not present but the other was

i then went to delete the files using windown explorer none of them were present except for C:\bsw.exe

i then rebooted

as for the two antivirus's i uninstalled and deleted my copy of Norton antivirus because i do not like it much i found that in never pick up on many viruses and that i never always removed them from my system even if it did finf them

so after all of that i rebooted and here is my new log file

Still a little work to do.

+++++ Step 1 +++++

Please download Ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install Ewido security suite
  • Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
+++++ Step 2 +++++

Right click Here and click Save Target As. Save the file to your desktop. Double click on the file you saved to run it. It will ask you if you want to merge it with your registry. Click Yes and then Ok on the confirmation. You will have to reboot for this to take effect.

After that, reboot and post a fresh HiJackThis log and let me know how things are working.

Good deal. Things are looking promising.

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  • Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
  • Weather Watcher - Free taskbar weather program that is free, malware free, and resource light.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein
