I don't know why, but the USB drives on my computer don't seem to work. It used to be able to read my flash drive, but now it says that it doesn't recognize the USB device. This happens with everything I plug into the USB drive, not just the flash drive. I looked online for a driver for the flash drive, but it says that XP should be able to recognize it without a driver. Is there anyway I can fix this?

Do all usb ports act the same way?
Go to start/control panel/system/hardware tab and look in device manager for any yellow or red warnings.

Go to Device Manager, and uninstall USB controllers.
Reboot, and they'll be automatically reinstalled.

How many usb ports do you have/ in front, and in rear?
What is the service pack version of XP?

it's a laptop so it only has 2 USB ports, and both are in the back.
I just installed SP2 a day or two ago. The problem started way before that though.

look in the bios and make sure anything usb related is enabled....
get any updated chipset drivers and reinstall them...get them at either the computer manufactures or mobo manufactures website...
also ...after installing sp2 did you get the 90 or so updates to sp2...or did you get sp3...it includes all the updates of sp2 and adds a few extra..
