Hi,

I recently bought a Maxtor Basics 320 GB USB2.0 2.5" external Portable Hard Drive about two weeks ago. It has been working fine until now. My computer fails to detect the drive when I plug it in. My external hard drive is still responsive, it lights up and there are sounds coming from it. However, it does not show up in My computer nor in the Disk Management section under Computer Management. It also does not show up in the control panel>system>hardware>device manager>disk drives/Universal Serial Bus controllers. I have re-plugged it several times along with countless restarts of my computer. I am running Windows XP service pack 2 on a dell dimension 3100. I don't know if its because I plugged my drive into my friend's mac OS X that caused it to be this way. I also plugged in to two of my friends' computers who run windows XP.

Am I screwed? Cause if I lose the stuff in my external hard drive I would really be screwed up.

Thanks.

Yeah Same here also. Instead of making a new thread for the same question.

I have a Fantom Drive, and I was extracting some .rar files, when there was a error message from PowerArchiver.

So I hit OK, then i canceled the extracting. Then I shut down my computer, because it wouldn't let me safely eject the Fantom Drive.

Now it doesn't show up in "My Computer", but it does show up in the Device Manager (as Nikochi Box, which I also disabled it and re enable it to see if anything would happen but nothing did).

So I went into Disk Management but right away it wants me to Initialize the disk. Which I really don't want to do, until I can get Most my files off it.

So is there something I do get my files off my Fantom Drive? Like a program? or something.
