Cleaning up my computer from adware and trojans. Have some programs listed in the Control Panel; Add/Remove Programs screen that I want to remove. They do not indicate that they have any file space taken up. When try to remove they indicate that some file does not exist and the operation is not completed. How do you remove reference to programs in the Add/Remove Programs screen if they have been cleaned/quarentined w/ spyware detectors?

Thanks...

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log, and let us know how your system's working. <_<

Also, what programs are in your add/remove programs that dont take up any space or will not be removed?

Here are the programs in my add/remove that do not take up any space...

1) Web Savings from Ebates
2) AOL Coach Version 1.0
3) AOL Connectivity Services
4) AOL Spyware Protection
5) AOL You've Got Pictures Screensaver
6) Dell Solution Center
7) Easy CD Creator 5 (Basic)
8) IE Help
9) MasterClips Browser v2.03
10) McAfee Security Center
11) McAfee Virus Scan
12) NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Display Drivers
13) Outlook Express Q837009
14) RealOne Player
15) Shockwave
16) Sound Blaster Live! Value
17) Windows SA
18) Windows SR 2.0
19) 28 Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) ###### files (can provide # if needed)
20) Windows XP Service Pack 1a
21) WSEM Update

I recognize that some of these files are needed but some, such as, Web Savings Ebates are not but this one in particular can not be removed... when try to remove this particular program get a WJView file error. Think program has been partially removed by some other means and Add/Remove fn is not able to remove file.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. You are helping me immensely so far. Thanks, Woodsy57

Charter is my cable modem. Still using AOL for Broadband. Kids are tied into it w/ their screen names and all of their buddies so I've been using this as the 'interface' of sorts.

Thanks...

Let's say you try to remove a file. What error message does it say exactly?
