I found this device online: http://www.pcworld.c...p;category_oid=

WOW, just what I need really. except double the price of a typical 1tb HDD (external)

What I want to Know is is there is a device that you could connect to a normal HDD to turn it into a media HDD that can play files on tv, pref incl divx

truth is i think i will be using about 2tb for all my media files. but i dont want to buy 2 of the media HDD's, actually I dont want a 2tb HDD anyways, simply put, more memory per HDD the more power consumption. I would rather ave several smaller ones (I dont intend on using all of them at once anyways) put I am not going to buy say 10 200gb media HDDs.

DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY DEVICE THAT WILL TURN A EXTERNAL HDD INTO A MEDIA HDD

Media HDD?
Take any "media" device apart and you'll find its just using a standard hard drive. The Multimedia bit is handled elsewhere in the unit.
As for the price, that's PC World for you.
