pages wont fit on the screen. I have tried following info i have found on the net, but the resolution wont change. Any ideas? It is sitting on 640x480. I have gone to control panel, then display, then settings. I have then clicked on apply. It says windows has to be restarted, which ive done, but the settings stay the same. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi i see lots of you have that problem you need to try the bottons on the monitor open the menu useing the bottons and it there you can change that hight wideness and move thae screen around.

please tell me if it fixed your problem

I've spent lengths of time trying to fix this same problem on my sister's computer, even reinstalled the entire OS and everything. Reinstalled the video drivers/card. And still the darn thing is stuck on 640x480. It's so annoying because the windows don't fit on the screen, often times you cannot even see what you need to click on. Auh! Is it wrong that I'm glad someone else has the same problem?

I had the same problem once with a win 98 machine some gave me because they bought a newer machine and because the 98 machine wouldn't boot up. I got the machine to boot and it was virus infected, spyware infected and the the like. fixed all that but still couldn't change screen resolution. One day I decided to look around The BIOS settings ya know the setup program one can access when the machine first boots up. Looking around the video stuff I found the problem. i forgot what the setting was called but that would vary anyway from machine to machine. Anyway have a look at your video setting in BIOS. If you don't know how ta access the setup program post here with information on your machine, type model number and so on. Sounds like that may be your problem, at least the symptoms are the same.

You don't need to tweak anything in bios, you don't need to reinstall your graphics card, and it's not your monitor.

In your display settings (where you change the resoltuion, or try and then it says, "Please reboot") click the "Advanced" button. I have Windows 2000 and so it's different than 98, but I believe it is either under "General", "Adapter" or "Monitor". There will be three radio options - just click the one that says, "Apply settings without a reboot".

Try this...Right click on the desktop and choose "Properties". Click on the "Settings" tab. Click the "Advanced" tab. Make sure there is a tick in the box marked "Apply the new color settings without restarting". Click "Apply" and then "OK". Now...change your settings and click "Apply" and "OK". If your settings change, accept the changes by clicking "Yes" in the Settings dialog box.

The solution was already posted but it seems to have been ignored. If you are unable to change the screen resolution, you do not have the correct driver installed for your video card. I just upgraded from w98 to w98se and was having the same problem. After some trouble, I finally found the correct driver update for the video card and once installed, everything worked fine.
