Hello,

I am currently operating on Windows XP Home and i frequently use such programs as adaware, spybot, avg, microsoft antispyware, and hjt. Unfortunately none of these programs can succesfully remove my aurora popups or nail.exe. I have tried to follow other's HJT posts to clear it out, but the problems still come back. I have just restarted my computer and run HJT. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here is my log file

Hi stephenzerotwo

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please run Notepad and copy the following text into a new file:

@ECHO OFF
cd %windir%
Nail.exe /FULLREMOVE
sc config SvcProc start= disabled
sc stop SvcProc
sc delete SvcProc
attrib -s -r -h nail.exe
attrib -s -r -h svcproc.exe
del nail.exe
del svcproc.exe
cd %windir%\system32
attrib -s -r -h DrPMon.dll
del DrPMon.dll
exit

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Post the log from the scan here for me.

Then please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Thanks Don77 i def appreciate the help here.

I did exactly as you said, but i don't think it worked.
Currently, Ewido keeps popping up saying infected file...mddhjiiaz.exe, if i hit clean it just comes up again.

Here are my logfiles.

Ok lets see if something is hiding on us,
  • Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443
  • Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
  • Open the folder and run FindIt's.bat and wait for notepad to open a text file. It will take awhile so please be patient ...
  • Then post the results here please.

Hi stephenzerotwo
  • Download CWShredder (there is a link in my signature), unzip it, and save it on the Desktop. Please do not run it yet, though.
  • Update CWShredder by click on the update button,Next be sure and click on the "fix" button.Close out the program when done
  • Please set your system to show
all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

  • Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.

Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

    C:\WINDOWS\mddhjiiaz.exe
Exit the Task Manager when finished.

  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check mark next to the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://magicsearch.us/browser/
    F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stcinstaller] c:\installer\id53.exe
    O15 - Trusted IP range: 206.161.125.149
O15 - ProtocolDefaults: 'http' protocol is in Trusted Zone, should be Internet Zone
O23 - Service: Security Agent (scagent) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\scagent.exe" start (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

  • Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

    C:\WINDOWS\mddhjiiaz.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
    c:\installer\id53.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\scagent.exe

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.
Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

Hi Don

Here are the updates.

CWS found nothing

C:\WINDOWS\mddhjiiaz.exe was not running in task manager

Checked all of the listed HTJ lines and clicked fixed

Once in safe mode i was supposed to remove these files:
C:\WINDOWS\mddhjiiaz.exe - did not exist
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe - deleted it and it instantly came back
c:\installer\id53.exe - did not exist
C:\WINDOWS\system32\scagent.exe - did not exist

Currently ewido popped up with a poller.exe infection and mddhjiiaz.exe. i clicked clean after i ran this new HJT file.

OK, You may want to print out these instructions,

Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the services called:

Security Agent

or

scagent

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Open HiJackThis, click on "None of the above, just start the program". Now, click on the "Config" button (bottom right), then click on "Misc Tools", then click on "Delete an NT Service" a window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (make sure there are NO spaces before or after the name):

scagent
Click OK.

It should pull up information about the service, then ask if you want to reboot. Click YES.

Next

Please restart HJT put a check next to the following, close all open windows and click “Fix Checked”

Hey Don,

After the reboot once i disable scagent, ewido popped up with nail.exe so i hit block and clean.

This caused the new HJT file to not have the F2 line i was supposed to remove.

I followed all of the killbox steps and installed the findit fix. I recieved no error message windows however...whan i pressed any key to continue after the scan.....it kept saying error, system unable to find registry path within the cmd box when it came up with teh log i have posted below.

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
The current date is: Thu 05/12/2005
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL FILES FOUND BY THIS METHOD ARE NOT BAD FILES, THERE MIGHT BE LEGIT FILES LISTED AND PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHILE FIXING. IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHAT IT IS LEAVE THEM ALONE.

Looks to finaly have killed it, I missed a file on the first pass, That's why it came back,

Lets just clean up these last few items and you should be all set.

[*]Open killbox again
[*]Paste the full file path C:\WINDOWS\System32\NCSSVK.EXE

in the box and click on Delete on Reboot.
[*] Next click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle. You will get a message saying "File with be deleted on next reboot, Process and Reboot now?"
[*]Click "Yes"
[*]Let the system reboot

Next

Please go Here
Download Reglite, Open Reistrar Lite,
Open the program, Click Ctrl and f, this will open search registry. In the upper box type or copy and paste,
aurora
Click on the search Button, When it finds the file or files and anything associated with it, Highlight it and click Delete the large red x on the bottom of the box.

Reboot again please,

Post a fresh Findits log please,
Your HJT log is clean !!

Nice job your log is clean !
How is it running ?
Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep Ad-aware and Spybot handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program
Download and install Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here Name it clean or something like that,
