internet problems

My computer has had some problems with getting the internet. I am using my friends computer on the same router as mine. My computer will not get internet whether it is pluggged in directly or wirelessly. its not a problem with any hardware in my belief. Could you please help me? I downloaded a .dll file that I think is the cause of all this.
