Scrambled Webcam Image

So the other day I installed a webcam that I just purchased (Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000). So i tried to test it out and all that is showing up are scrambled images. It's hard to describe what I mean so I included a still capture as an example. I'm not sure why this is happeing since according to the product box, I have all the system requirements. Any help at all would be most appreciated since I am leaving the country in a few weeks and I would really like to be able to keep in touch with people back home.
