I had some recent malware problems with my computer and I'm just now getting things fixed. I am having one problem with my file and folder search not working...the microsoft.com fix didn't work for that ( says I can only install their fix if I dont have any service packs installed). I am also having problems with windows update. Every time I visit windows update I get a blank screen. My windows update doesnt even come up on the taskbar like it use to (my settings are set to auto download but not install as well). I was wondering if there was a fix for this. I have tried doing start/run regsvr32 jscript.dll, as well as two other .dlls with no luck

I didn't understand most of that, but windows update is only suppose to work with IE 5 -6. You think I'd be able to access window update with firefox?

tp, you need to start your own thread

As it is, did you try:

-----------------------

Windows update not working?

Step 1
Are you getting a specific error message?
If so, go here and check it

http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us

If no error, go to step 2

Step 2

Start >Run, type
regsvr32 jscript.dll
<enter>

try windows update
Start >Run, type
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
<enter>

try windows update

If still not working, go to step 3

step 3

Download and install the following

FINALLY FOUND THE ANSWER!!! Took me forever.
Go to the I386 folder in C:/
Locate all the MSXML** files there . . . about 5 or 6
Copy them all to the System32 folder.

Find, defragment, windows update . . . they all came back instantly
Oh, I also did that regsvr32 msxml3.dll first. Wouldn't work before I copied all the files over, did after.

I have a client who was experiencing a similar problem and I used the following method to bring the Windows Update site back to life:

The two caveats that need to be mentioned are:

1) He's also got Mozilla Firefox installed on his computer, and
2) He's was using Internet Explorer 6

So if one or both of these pre-requisites might fit your situation, then try the following:

Go to Control Panel, Internet Options, and use the Programs Tab to make IE your default browser. It can be done in a couple of different ways depending on whether you're using IE6 or IE7, but it's pretty obvious what to do in either case.

After making IE6/7 his default browser, the Windows Update site came right up.

It seems that, while it appeared to be using IE to go to the Windows Update site, it was actually using Firefox and couldn't talk "ActiveX" to get the Page to show properly.

Additionally, after upgrading to IE7, I used the Reset Button on the Advanced Tab in Internet Options to clear up a few issues having to do with other ActiveX Plug-ins, and started reinstalling miscellaneous ActiveX plugins as needed, such as Flash Player, etc.

Let me know if this helps.

Regards to All
